Porangahau Bowling Club

Porangahau Bowling Club

The Porangahau Bowling Club is a small but very social club. There are approximately 50 members who can get together anytime during the week for a social rollup or on Sundays for more formal competitions. Club days are any Sunday, starting at 12.45pm, when there are no scheduled competitions.

The bowling club is well known for its annual 2 day Beachcombers AC Fours tournament which is held in late January, and its 2 day Women’s Triples Sea Witches tournament in early April.

The original lawn bowling green (8 rink) was built in 1974 during construction of the Porangahau Country Club. A keen membership of 80+ bowlers played regularly. However, due to falling membership, the Porangahau Bowling Club went into recess
in 2002.

Then, after much fundraising and hard work, a 6-rink all-weather surface of green weave mat was opened in 2016 and the interest in bowls has been revived and is growing in the community ever since. Regular club days are played every Sunday, from September through to April, from 12.45pm to 4.00pm.

A Twilight bowls competition is played in October on a Friday evening from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Meals and drinks are available afterwards at the Porangahau Country Club.

Visitors and new members are warmly welcomed. Green fees of $5 per player apply to non-members.
